Micro-Needling

While micro-needling is a relatively safe procedure, it is important that our patients stay well informed prior, during and after they are treated. What can micro-needling treat?
Micro-needling can treat fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, hyper-pigmentation and skin texture by stimulating the skin's natural ability to produce new collagen formation creating healthier skin.
How long does treatment take?
Treatment time ranges from 15-30 minutes per area depending on the area.
When will results be visible?
Results can be seen after the first treatment, and results improve with each additional treatment.
Is there any pain with micro-needling treatment?
Depending on the area being treated and the aggressiveness of treatment, there can be some slight discomfort during the procedure. A topical anesthetic can be applied 15-20 minutes prior and is removed before the micro-needling treatment begins to help alleviate discomfort.
What are the immediate after effects of micro-needling?
Redness, or erythema, of the skin can appear, as well as possible pinpoint bleeding. The severity of erythema depends on how aggressive the treatment was performed and individual skin type. You can resume normal activity immediately after the procedure including driving yourself home. Minimal swelling may occur and be more noticeable on the second day.
How many micro-needling treatments will I need?
Benefits of the micro-needling can be seen after just one treatment. It is recommended that 3-6 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart, are performed for maximum results. In cases where a more aggressive treatment schedule is needed such as acne scar revision, a greater number of treatments may be necessary for maximum results. Consult with one of our practitioners.

Is this permanent hair removal?
It is a permanent reduction of hair growth, 70-80% reduction with maintenance treatments twice a year or until patient is pleased with results.
Does it work on grey hair?
No, the laser is attracted to melanin (pigment). Melanin is found in skin and hair. Grey, blonde, and red hair have none to very little melanin, therefore it is not effective to treat these types.
What if I color my grey hair, will it work then?
Unfortunately, even if grey hair is colored the follicle is still grey, therefore the laser will be unable to destroy it.
Are there any preparations necessary before treatment?
Avoid acne products: cleansers, exfoliants, anti-aging products, topicals for three days prior to treatment and for three days following treatment. No visible tan. Patients that have tan skin will not be able to have treatment. The sun must be avoided for at least one month prior to treatment. Self tanners must also be avoided.
How will I look after treatment?
May have redness, sensitivity, small bumps resembling shave bumps, which all resolve quickly.
Can I use makeup afterwards?
May use moisturizer and makeup about an hour after treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
Most require 6-12 treatments for permanent reduction.
How much does it cost?
Depends on size of surface area being treated.
How far apart are treatments?
Treatments for hair removal should be 4-6 weeks apart for most effective response.
Can I go out into the sun?
Patient cannot expose areas to be treated for a minimum of one week. Patient should have NO VISIBLE TAN LINES and should not expose treated area to sun for at least two weeks post treatment. Recently treated areas may burn. Should refrain from sun exposure until treatment is completed in order to continue monthly appointments.
What if I stop during summer months?
Recommended to have at least six consecutive treatments in order to cause accumulative damage to follicles to diminish growth. Long term results are best when treatments are done consecutively, but if the skin gets tan, treatment MUST be discontinued. Treatment can resume once the tan is gone and additional treatments may be needed moving forward.
What if I get sun exposure during treatment?
Sun exposure, tanning booths, and self tanning products will allow energy of laser to target skin more than hair causing pigment changes, blisters or burns, possibly scarring.

Laser Tattoo Removal

While laser tattoo removal is a relatively safe procedure, it is important that our patients stay well informed prior, during and after they are treated. There are many questions to be asked before committing. Here you will find a list of our most frequently asked questions along with detailed answers straight from our office. Although we have provided frequent questions, we are always available to answer any questions that are not listed here. Please fill out the contact form on the right, or call us at 716-688-0020 for further information. We proudly provide laser tattoo removal to Buffalo and all of WNY! Does it hurt? What does it feel like?
Majority of patients compare the laser to a rubber band being snapped against the skin. For others, it can best be described as a hot, stinging sensation. Patient experience will vary based on their pain tolerance. During treatment we keep our patients as comfortable as possible by using an ice pack on the treated area and the Zimmer cooling machine. The Zimmer cooling machine is widely regarded as the best skin numbing solution for tattoo removal. This noninvasive machine blows freezing cold air at the skin before, during, and after treatment – providing maximum comfort throughout your entire treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments depends on a variety of factors, including the quality of ink used, the chemical composition, the age and location of the tattoo, patient health, and much more. Patients will always require multiple treatments to completely remove their tattoo. Our Astanza Trinity laser is designed to penetrate deeper into the skin and shatter more ink within each session, speeding up the fading process and reducing the number of overall treatments needed.
How is the tattoo removed?
Laser pulverizes the ink then the immune system slowly carries away the shattered ink particles.
Are certain colors harder to treat?
Yes. Blues, greens, pastels, and teals are considered stubborn tattoos and require a specific laser wavelength to effectively remove these colors. Neiman Dermatology has invested in the Astanza Trinity laser to tackle and remove tattoos of all colors, including resistant green and blue inks.
Are there any preparations necessary before treatment?
Patients are advised to limit their sun exposure, not use tanning booths, self tanning products, or any medications that cause light sensitivity. This rule should also be followed after each treatment. Excessive sun exposure can cause unwanted side effects like skin discoloration. Protect your skin by applying sunscreen daily and wearing appropriate clothing to protect your tattoo.
How will the area look after treatment?
Immediately after treatment, the laser will cause a frosting effect. Some patients are worried at the appearance of laser frosting, however, we ensure you that this is actually a good sign. White frosting indicates that the laser is penetrating the ink efficiently. As your ink fades more with each treatment, the laser frosting will appear less.
Are there any side effects?
The most common side effects are redness, swelling, blistering (superficial), bruising, scabbing, itchiness, and slight stinging similar to a sunburn. All of these side effects are temporary and will heal over the weeks following a treatment. As long as you follow treatment protocol and proper aftercare, side effects should stay limited to these.
How much does it cost?
Neiman Dermatology offers per treatment pricing on tattoos based on the size of the area being treated.
How far apart are treatments?
Treatments are typically spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart. This waiting period is necessary to give your skin time to heal before its next laser session.
Are older tattoos harder to remove?
Not at all. Older tattoos often easier to treat, depending on how dense the ink is. Tattoos fade more and more the older they are, making them fairly easy to remove. Our clinic uses a variety of factors to assess your tattoo and best determine the number of treatments it will need.
Can I go out into the sun?
In the first few months, exposure to the sun can cause pigment changes. It is highly recommended that the area treated has a physical barrier, whether it be with a bandage or an article of clothing. After two months you will be able to go in the sun.

RF Skin Tightening

As a non-invasive treatment to reverse the signs of aging on the skin, RF Skin Tightening is typically used to treat the face and neck. While it is safe when performed appropriately, it is also important to understand the process as a whole. Here is a list of the most important things to know before moving forward with RF Skin Tightening. If you have any further questions or would like additional information, please fill out the contact form on the right or call us at 716-688-0020.

Is it painful?
Most patients report a warm stinging sensation. During treatment, a handheld fan is utilized to provide relief. After treatment, patients feel a sunburn sensation that is relieved with a fan or a cold compress. It usually resolves itself in about an hour.
What will I look like after treatment?
Immediately following treatment the skin will have an even red appearance like a sunburn. Over the next 12-24 hours the redness fades and a grid-like pattern will appear. This is normal and to be expected. It will be most noticeable in the first 1-3 days after treatment. It will resolve itself in about 7 days. You will also get a light exfoliation and skin will be smoother to the touch.
Can I wash my face?
The skin will be sensitive to any cleanser or moisturizer for the first 12 hours after treatment. Nothing at all should be applied to the skin during that time. After 12 hours you may use a mild, non-medicated cleanser and plain moisturizer. Wash gently! Sunscreen may also be used 12 hours after treatment.
Can I wear makeup?
Makeup can be applied 24 hours after treatment. We recommend using a lightweight mineral makeup that can be easily removed.
Can I go in the sun?
It is recommended to avoid sun exposure throughout the duration of the treatments (especially within the first 7 days while the skin is exfoliating). Sun exposure too soon after may lead to pigment damage or burns. When outside, no matter the time of year, wear a physical block sunscreen and protective clothing to protect the treatment area.
Prior to the treatment is there any prep needed?
Yes. It is advised to discontinue any topical medications, including acne or anti-aging products for 3 days prior to treatment and leave off the treatment area for 7 days after. The skin should also be clean and free of any makeup, moisturizer, or sunscreen prior to treatment. These products will block the energy used in the treatment. Also, avoid tanning or getting a sunburn.
When can I see results?
You will get a light exfoliation and notice smoother skin about 7 days after treatment. Collagen production takes longer and a plumping effect can be seen in as little as 6 weeks. Maximum benefits can be seen 2-4 months after the last treatment.
Will it lift sagging jowls?
No. RF Skin Tightening works to firm and tighten skin only. Jowls are often a combination of fat deposition and sagging muscles as well as decreased skin elasticity.
What if I had Botox or fillers?
There is a 3 week waiting period after having Botox or fillers. Areas with synthetic filler (silicone) cannot be treated. Always inform your provider of any other cosmetic procedure or surgery done on the area to be treated to ensure a safe treatment.

What causes cellulite?
There is no definite explanation for why cellulite occurs. While it may be the result of an unhealthy lifestyle, there may be other causes, including genetics or hormonal changes.
What sort of results can I expect?
The body contouring power of VelaShape can lead to a circumferential reduction up to an inch and will reduce the appearance of cellulite so the skin appears more smooth. Will also help to firm and tighten the skin.
How quickly will I notice a change after VelaShape?
You will begin to notice gradual improvement of the treated area as soon as two weeks as your skin’s surface starts to feel smoother and firmer. Over time you will also notice a smaller circumference throughout the treated area as well as a reduction in the appearance of cellulite, and best results will be seen at about 10 weeks.
How long do the results last? Are follow-up treatments needed?
Following your treatment regimen, it is imperative that you periodically receive maintenance VelaShape treatments. Like all techniques, invasive or non-invasive, results will last longer if you follow a balanced diet and exercise regimen.
How many treatments will I need?
Typically, it takes 3-6 treatments to achieve the best results. Your provider will determine the best treatment plan for you.
Is VelaShape safe?
The VelaShape treatment is safe and effective for all skin types and colors. There are no reported short-term or long-term side effects.
Are VelaShape treatments painful?
Most patients find VelaShape comfortable and describe the treatment as feeling like a warm deep-tissue massage. The treatment parameters are easily adjusted to ensure a comfortable treatment experience. It is normal to experience a warm sensation for a few hours after your treatment. Some patients report a pinkish appearance at the treatment area that may last a few hours post treatment, and skin may appear pink for several hours.
How does the Velashape III Work?
Velashape III uses a combination of technologies to contour your body and reduce the appearance of cellulite. Vacuum technology manipulates your skin while infrared light and bi-polar radio frequency energies gently heat fat cells and surrounding tissue.

Photorejuvenation

Photorejuvenation is a safe and effective treatment, where in just a few sessions there will be a noticeable improvement in your overall skin tone. Below is a list of our most frequently asked questions along with detailed answers straight from our office. If you have further questions, call us at 716-688-0020..

What will it feel like?
Most patients report a warm, rubber band snapping sensation. The device has a built in chiller for patient comfort so no topical anesthesia is needed. Post treatment feels like a mild sunburn. Cooling gel is applied to the area and this usually resolves in about an hour or less.
What will my skin look like after treatment?
Immediately after treatment, the skin will be pink (similar to a mild sunburn). Freckles/age spots will darken and exfoliate gradually over the next 7-14 days. There may be some initial mild swelling around larger freckles that resolves in a day or two. Occasionally, very mild bruising can occur when treating broken blood vessels. This will resolve on its own. Use of aspirin or blood thinners will also increase the risk.
Can I wash my face?
You can wash your face any time after treatment with tepid water and mild soap (hot water and alcohol based or medicated cleansers will sting). Do not scrub or try to pick or peel areas that are exfoliating! This can cause pigment damage and/or scarring.
Can I wear makeup?
Yes. Makeup, plain moisturizer, and SPF can be applied an hour after treatment. We recommend using a light, mineral makeup that is easily removed. *Avoid acne or anti-aging topicals and cleansers for three days prior to treatment and for 3-7 days following treatment or until the skin is fully healed.
Can I go in the sun?
We recommend avoiding sun exposure to the area to be treated at least one month prior to treatment and throughout the course of treatment. UV radiation on freshly treated skin will cause pigment damage, burns, and possible scarring.
Can I use a self tanner?
No. Skin that is darker than its natural color from use of self tanner or the sun will absorb an excessive amount of laser energy and it will burn.
Are results permanent?
Results are not permanent, but can last longer with good skin care. Much of the red and brown discoloration (blood vessels, brown spots) occurs through cumulative DNA damage from the sun. If the skin is re-exposed to the sun after treatment, the discoloration can recur. Therefore, proper protection with a physical/mineral block SPF will keep results lasting longer. Patients with rosacea are often affected by dietary triggers (alcohol, spicy food, etc.) minimizing consumption of known trigger foods will also help results last longer.
