The Dreaded Cellulite

Whether in celebrity gossip magazines or on entertainment news shows, I’m sure you’re quite familiar with cellulite.

Cellulite is a common skin condition typically found in women, caused by a change on the surface of the skin. It is evidenced by dimpling of the skin, occurring mainly on the abdomen, pelvic region, or lower limbs.

Despite many misconceptions, cellulite is not caused by an individual’s weight. The actual cause is from a loss of elasticity in the connective tissue under the skin. Fat in the cellulite then gets trapped in the connective tissue and creates the dimple-like appearance. There are many treatments out there to reduce the appearance of cellulite but one of the most effective is through the use of heated lasers.

The VelaShape III, now available at our office, uses a combination of infrared (IR), Bi-Polar Radio-Frequency (RF) and mechanical tissue manipulation using pulsed vacuum and massage. The combination of the infrared and vacuum coupled radio-frequency technologies causes deep heating of the connective tissue which results in a localized reduction in skin laxity and volume to lessen the appearance of cellulite. Contact our office today if you feel you may have cellulite.
